    Dumping Sites Near Roodepoort

The nearest landfill to Roodepoort is Marie Louise in Dobsonville, and the Pikitup garden sites in the Roodepoort area are Marie Louise (Roodepoort Road) and Panorama (Jim Fouche Road). Here is what each one is for, with the addresses Pikitup publishes, so you take the right load to the right gate.

    Builders rubble, soil, general waste

Goes to a landfill. For Roodepoort that is the Marie Louise Landfill Site, Cnr Elias Motsoledi Street & Main Road, Dobsonville, Soweto.

    Branches, grass, leaves

Goes to a garden site. Pikitup has 42 of them "where residents can dispose of light garden waste". The ones in and near Roodepoort are listed below.

    Marie Louise Landfill Site Landfill

Cnr Elias Motsoledi Street & Main Road, Dobsonville, Soweto

One of the four landfills Pikitup operates (with Robinson Deep, Goudkoppies and Ennerdale). This is the landfill nearest Roodepoort, and the one for general waste and builders rubble.

Marie Louise Garden Site Garden site

    Roodepoort Road, Vogelstruisfontein

A separate garden site, not the landfill gate. For light garden waste, plus the recycling bins every garden site has.

    Panorama Garden Site Garden site

    Jim Fouche Road, Panorama A.H.

Garden site on Jim Fouche Road, the road that runs through Weltevreden Park.

    Fairlands Garden Site Garden site

    Smit Street, Fairlands

    Further east, toward Randburg.

    Randburg Garden Site Garden site

    Hans Schoeman Street, Strydom Park

    Further east again, in Randburg.

    Roodepoort Depot Depot

    10 Granville Road, Lea Glen

Pikitup's Roodepoort depot, which runs the area's collection rounds. It is a depot, not a public dumping site.

The Joburg rules that apply to your pile

Roodepoort is part of the City of Johannesburg, so the City's Waste Management By-laws (2021) apply. Three parts matter to anyone with a heap in the driveway:

    • Garden waste: seven days

Garden waste must be removed and disposed of "within seven days", or a reasonable time the City sets, at a facility the City determines. Composting it on your own property is allowed if it doesn't cause a nuisance.

    • Keep the weighbridge ticket

An authorised official can ask for "a weighbridge ticket as proof of proper disposal" of garden waste over a set mass. If you tip a big load yourself, keep the slip.

    • Bulky waste: fourteen days

Old furniture, appliances and anything too big for the bin must be removed or disposed of within fourteen days. The City may collect it on request, at the owner's cost.

    Seen someone dumping?

Pikitup takes illegal dumping reports on 0860 562 874 or 011 375 5555. If you pay someone to take your rubble away, ask where it is going. A load that ends up on a vacant stand is still your rubble.

No bakkie? We'll take it for you

Driving a load to Dobsonville means borrowing a bakkie, loading it by hand and driving it there yourself. If that's more than you want to deal with, we come to you anywhere in Roodepoort and the West Rand, load it and take it to the right facility.
